What Would It Mean to

Understand

What Whales are Saying

CETI is a nonprofit organization applying advanced machine learning and state-of-the-art robotics to listen to and translate the communication of sperm whales. Our research focus is in Dominica in the Eastern Caribbean.

partnerships with over 15 institutions

We’re a nonprofit, interdisciplinary scientific and conservation initiative

Why

This Matters

We’re listening to and translating how other species communicate - starting with the sperm whale. Our mission is simple.

1

Achieve advancements and breakthroughs in interspecies communication

2

Transform human understanding & connectivity

3

Share our learnings with the world

THE LARGEST KNOWN
BRAIN IN THE UNIVERSE

With a brain six times the size of humans, untapped potential could be vast

What if…

We can listen and
understand another species.

For the first time in history, advances in technology have made it possible to understand the communication of animals.Imagine what would happen if we could understand what other animals are saying? What would they say? What could we learn?

How CETI Works

CETI is a listening project that uses advanced machine Learning and robotics  to understand what sperm whales are saying.

The first phase is to construct a one-of-a-kind large-scale acoustic and behavioral data set to train CETI’s technology to observe whale communication in context and to translate whale-speak.
